Korra PROGRESSION

1. Sketch. I had the reference picture printed out beside me as I sketched it with good old pencil and a sketchbook.

2. Lineart. I scanned the sketch into Gimp to do the longer lines with pen tool, then moved to Photoshop CS5 to do do the shorter, more complicated lines myself.

3. Better Lineart. Did some serious editing of her face, hair, and head in general. Other tweaking elsewhere.

4. Colors. I always make a background before I color just to give me a better feel for the environment, even if I don't ultimately keep it. Also some basic colors. My dad actually did a lot of that! He wanted to play with my graphics tablet. xD Thanks daddy.

5. Shading. I didn't like the background I had, so I played around and made this one with the water and cliff and everything. I struggle with shading, so I was trying to block out basic shaded areas. Fixed her pants to make them baggier.

6. Finishing Touches. I switched the background again because I thought it distracted too much from Korra herself. It's supposed to mimic an Air Temple's floor pattern. Added some dodgey highlights to Korra, some cracks to the ground. Lightened the lines from black to a dark brown. Also switched her shadow's direction.
