Literature Text

"So Zuko, now that the war is over and things didn't work out with Mai, what do you plan to do?" Aang asked his firebending master.
Sokka put in, "Yeah, who are you going to get with? Katara?" The rest of the Gaang snickered, all except for the young waterbender who simply glared at her older brother.
Zuko laughed a bit. "Oh, I had someone in mind..."

The streets of Ba Sing Se were dark, as there were typically no lights along the earthen paths to guide the rare person walking along them at night. You would occasionally see the random porch light on, speckling the earth capital with yellow dots. One of these porch lights belonged to a small tea shop, located in the lower ring. There were lights on inside too, with various shadows moving about, not belonging to customers, but to the employees cleaning up after a long day's work. Faint voices came from the inside, at least two, but they were much too muffled to be heard clearly.

After a few moments, the lights went out inside the small tea house. Two people stepped outside, one a middle-aged frail-looking man. The other a girl, who appeared to be around 15 years old. She had long brown hair braided into two pigtails which were draped over each shoulder. She wore a simple green robe, covered with a white apron blotched with brown stains here and there. Her bright, gray eyes reflected the yellow light from the lantern hanging at the door, and of the moon, shining high above.

Just as the girl was about to close the door, the man called to her, "Good night, Jin! Have pleasant dreams!"

"Good night, Meiku," the girl replied. She closed the door softly and started down the empty street.

Jin rounded a corner and it suddenly became dark. She couldn't understand why there was nothing to light the street at night. Most people would be terrified to walk these very streets at this hour, afraid of monsters that were certainly going to jump out of the shadows and gobble them down. Although she really didn't mind walking in the dark, the moonlight was plenty bright to see. It was funny, most people would be terrified to walk these very streets at this hour, afraid of monsters that were certainly going to jump out of the shadows and gobble them down. Unlike them, she knew this route better than the secret tea recipe. Jin knew that no monsters were going to jump out of the shadows, no Fire Nation soldiers would grab her and drag her home for being out past dusk, and the Dai Li wasn't going to pop up from the street and kidnap her. The war was over, she was safer than she'd ever been.

Her small cottage came into view as she rounded another corner. It was rather small, but big enough for one person. Aside from the leaky roof, no running water, and a weak floor, it was perfect. Jin wished she could afford to fix it up, but a job as a waitress at a lower ring tea shop only paid so much.

Jin pulled her house keys from her apron pocket and started up the steps leading to her front door. She fumbled for the right one, as she had multiple keys on the chain. Finally, she found it, and reached for the door knob...

"Hey, Jin. I always wondered where you lived."

The Earth Kingdom girl dropped her keys, startled. She could've sworn she was alone, and it disturbed her to know that she had been so oblivious to someone watching her. She slowly turned to face her stalker, expecting to see some crazed-out looking teenaged gangster.

Instead she saw a rather friendly looking boy. If you could call him a boy, he appeared to be about 16, with long black hair that simply hung in his face. He had beautiful golden eyes, filled with warmth and love. He was actually kind of cute. But as she was about to relax, she saw that he was wearing Fire Nation clothes. With the Fire Nation's recent siege on Ba Sing Se still in her mind, she tensed.

"What do you want with me? Who are you?" she asked. Jin backed towards her door and plastered herself against it.

The stranger ignored her. "I didn't mean to scare you, sorry." He didn't sound mean at all, but Jin knew better. That's how the Fire Nation soldiers worked. They gained your trust, then took advantage of it. The boy bent over and picked something up, then held it out to her. "Here are your keys."

Jin hesitated for a moment. She slowly took her keys from him. "Thanks," she said, still feeling a bit nervous. Gathering herselft up, she added, sounding stronger this time, "Now, would you mind telling me who you are, and what you want?"

To her surprise, the stranger started to laugh. Then, he said in a teasing voice, "Are you saying you don't recognize me?"

"No, should I?" Jin asked. "I didn't think I knew any Fire Nation people." He opened his mouth to speak, but Jin kept going. "Although I must say, you do look a little familiar. You definitely sound familiar." She walked over to him and studied him. Now that she was realoly looking at him, she could see that there was something there.

"Here's a hint," said the Fire Nation boy. He placed a hand over his right eye and said, "I juggle in the circus that I travel with."

Yes, she knew he was familiar now. But who was he? One person came to mind, but he definitely had shorter hair, and a big scar over his right eye. It couldn't be him, scars don't disappear. But hair can grow, and the hand over the eye, could it represent...could it be?

"Lee?"

The stranger smiled. "Took you long enough."

End of Part 1
So, this is what I was doing while the computer was down. Writing a story about the reunion of Jin and Zuko. Yes, I still ship Jinko. I also wrote the next chapter of TNST, but I have to type it still.

There are probably thousands of stories along the same lines, but I had the strong urge to write it, so here it is. I'll write another part to this, where they catch up on things and Zuko explains why he's in Fire Nation clothes and the whatnot.

Speaking of which, you are probably wondering yourself why I stripped Zuko of his scar. I still think that it will be healed. Why would the creators bring up the possibility for no reason? If I'm wrong don't tell me. I think I am the only person in the world that thinks this will happen, but I don't care.

EDIT: Meiku is the owner of the tea shop that Zuko and Iroh worked at, in case you were wondering.
